The manufacture of aluminium gearbox casings

The German company Brunnhuber and Bandt specialise in the fabrication of aluminium gearbox casings for luxury yachts. The article discusses the fabrication for a yacht for the Kuwaiti Sheikh Aga Khan. The high standards on the load capacity and quality of the gearbox casings imposed equally high demands on the welding technology used. ESAB most advanced power source for MIG and TIG welding, the Aristo 2000 (LUD 450 UW) was selected together with OK Autrod 18.16 and OK Tigrod 18.16 consumables for welding ER5183 type aluminium.
