Friction Stir Welding (FSW)
Friction Stir Welding is a method of joining primarily Al and Cu alloys without the use of open arc. The method was developed in 1992 by TWI with ESAB as a major sponsor. The method offers a bonding with similar structure as the base metal with minimum distortion in a single pass at a plate thickness up to more than 50 mm (2").
